FPS Day-after Quarterbacking on 5th Parliament Opening Session

In the FPS “Day-after Quarterbacking” analysis of yesterday’s Opening of the 5th Session of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, several key points have been noted:

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud

1. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud could have addressed the pressing issues of the nation with a more assertive tone. This would have conveyed a sense of urgency and seriousness towards the challenges facing the country.

2. The President could have shown humility by acknowledging where his administration may have fallen short in addressing certain issues.

This would have demonstrated accountability and a willingness to learn from past mistakes.

3. It would have been beneficial for the President to call upon the warring clans across the country to cease hostilities and engage in dialogue for peace, and instruct his government to intervene where necessary.

This proactive approach could signify compassionate leadership and contribute to fostering reconciliation and unity.

The Dissenting Parliament Members

1. Dissenting parliament members could have presented their arguments with greater professionalism and sophistication. Reserving the opening session for the presidential statement and conducting  discussions on accountability at a later date would have provided a more suitable platform for airing their grievances.

2. It would have been thoughtful for dissenting members to refrain from criticizing the Prime Minister, who was on a foreign trip.

This would have displayed respect for his absence and facilitated a more focused discussion at a later time.

3. Dissenting members should strive to maintain a more refined parliamentary tone and decorum during their discussions. Utilizing statements like “Parliament needs a jin-casting Sheikh Rusheeye” may detract from the gravity of the issues being addressed and impede constructive dialogue moving forward.

The Nutshell

In conclusion, it is FPS’s perspective that a more constructive and diplomatic approach from both President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and dissenting parliament members could have facilitated more effective discussions and progress towards addressing the pressing issues facing Somalia.

History is also about the future.
