WHO WE ARE
Foresight for Practical Solutions (FPS) is a think and action tank headquartered in Mogadishu, Somalia, working across East Africa and the Horn. We exist because the region’s most pressing challenges — in governance, security, climate, education, and migration — are too often analyzed from a distance and addressed with borrowed templates. FPS takes a different route: our experts are drawn primarily from within East African societies, bringing firsthand knowledge of the contexts in which policy must actually work.
We call ourselves a think and action tank deliberately. Analysis that ends at publication is half the job. FPS pairs evidence-based research with direct engagement — advising decision-makers, convening practitioners, and translating findings into steps that institutions can implement.
WHAT WE WORK ON
Our research and advisory work concentrates on five areas: education reform, climate action, immigration dynamics, communication strategy, and public policy and good governance. Across all five, the same conviction applies — that durable solutions must be anchored in local context, tested against evidence, and stated plainly enough to be acted upon.

FPS Quarterly — our flagship periodical, convening expert analysis on a defining regional question each quarter.
FPS Incidental Briefs — rapid-response policy briefs issued when events demand timely, level-headed assessment.
FPS Commentaries — ongoing editorials and analysis on political, security, and economic developments in Somalia and the wider region.
FPS Scholarly — peer-reviewed research by FPS experts, published in international academic journals.
FPS analysis also appears regularly in regional and international media, including The EastAfrican, Daily Nation, Anadolu Agency, Devex, and others.
HOW WE ARE FUNDED
FPS operates on an independent, self-financing model. This sustains our work without conditioning it — our findings answer to the evidence, not to a funder’s brief, and our engagement with the region is built to last.
