Mr. Abdi Soofe
Abdi Soofe currently works full time at the City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods as the New American Program Coordinator where he oversees the community engagement for the City of Columbus, Ohio.
Under his leadership the New American Program manages the language Access, New American Leadership Academy, A citywide leadership development signature program focused on civic engagement, Civic Integration Grants and the welcoming policy by the city of Columbus.
As experienced public servant of 22 years, Mr. Soofe’s work strives on collaborative innovative solution oriented thru understanding of underlying challenges seeking unique positive results for new American residents on integration and transition process.
Prior to joining the City of Columbus, Mr. Soofe held positions with the Franklin County, Ohio Clerk of Courts of Common Pleas as records manager and the Franklin County Municipal Court Clerk as a Deputy Clerk and Public Relations Coordinator. While at Franklin County, Mr. Soofe had provided consultations on cultural competency, conflict management & resolutions, and community & constituent relations to the courts.
Mr. Soofe has Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University and the University of Phoenix, and has received numerous recognitions and awards from various institutions. He is a Pan African Award Winner from Federations of African Organizations of Ohio, A Community Service & Impact Award. Mr. Soofe is currently member of the board of directors of Focus Learning Academy of Northern Columbus, Ohio Refugee Advisory Council, and Former members of Heart of Ohio Family Health Centers.
